My Precious G'ma time ~

I got to spend a couple weekends with my Precious Granddaughter and she is SO into SEWing ... I bought her a mini Janome 2 Christmas' ago, and now that's all she wants to do when she comes over ... So y'all know what a giver I am ... I gave in and we sewed together ...

This was her attempt at her first pattern reading on her own. We used the "almost free" tissue holder pattern we got from Ami Simms BLOG and it's a pattern from Linda Halpin. They both have some great tips and patterns and lots of GREAT reading!

So Precious has been digging thru G'mas scrap tubs and she's got a GREAT eye for color! Maybe she can teach me something about that, because that's where I struggle the most in my creativity. I think my mind bounces too much with too many ideas :)

After choosing many different color combinations, Precious started sewing... and because she had not sewn for awhile, her confidence was way down... so my first answer to her is always for prayer, because I want her to learn to lean on The Lord for all her needs and cares. We pray alot together ... and we've always taught her to pray out loud, and she does so quite freely ... ah, LOVE that girl! So we prayed for her to not be anxious or fearful and then she takes a deep breath and dives in! :) She sews and sews and sews... and has made these holders for her mom, both GrGrandmas, her teacher, her old teacher, friends, and one to tuck into her back pack too!

She also wanted to make a magnet for her mom to put on the dishwasher so they could see if the dishes were clean or dirty ! :)

This Precious child SURE knows how to tug at her G'mas heart strings ... and I am SO VERY priviledged to be able to spend time with her and (hopefully) inspire her to do something she loves. She IS my heart!

I've been BUSY AGAIN !

I'm on a roll! I went so long last year without really applying any sewing to my life, except for a little bit here and a little bit there ... I REALLY want to get serious this year ! I have some MUF projects I want to do ... but for right now, I have a brain focused on purses! I took 8 of them to a boutique last week, got an order for 1 in California, and so I now need to get serious !

I went to Melissa's yesterday and cleaned for a bit ... and started talking about a pattern I picked up. Her mind is so creative sometimes (I think youth might have something to do with that)... anyway, she gave me some awesome ideas, and now my head is spinning with ideas and thoughts! So here I am ... up at 4am ... figured if my brain is gonna lay there and think of purses and magnetic snaps and purse feet and such ... I might as well get up. :)

So here's some of the pretties I delivered last week to the boutique. Hoping they will do well and I have more to make so I can really get them "out there".... any ideas ? Off to a GOOD START this year !

I'm on a roll !!! I'm looking to go to the Circle of Friends retreat in North Carolina ... it's put on by friends on the HGTV quilting message board, and it's a bunch of fun quilters getting together to meet up and share in person what we've been doing for years in cyber space. I'm SO excited! And motivated!

So ... honey told me to put together some bags and my hairdresser wants to put them in her shop... so here's a couple I whipped up this week... have a few more cut out, and will post them when I get them done.

The inside of this 6-pocket tote is the same as the outside pockets ... and I made the little button fastener ... gotta love glue guns !

I really like this jeans one ... it's made out of girls jeans, so it has a cute ruffled elastic top (I remember those days LONG ago when I could wear these) :) Didn't think it was big enough ??? so added some quilted bottom on to it ... Learned a good lesson on that one, cause I didn't want to line it and distract from the inside of the jeans ... but didn't line the quilted part before I sewed it on ... Think I'll be keeping this one :))

I'm just excited that I am actually completing projects and am focused on sewing! Look what dumping all the drama people were dumping on me :) It's a GREAT NEW YEAR !

GENEROSITY ... I love it !

A while back, I posted a blog about a giveaway over at SHEA CHIC. We had to write a story about someone deserving of a giveaway of some nice products ... So I wrote about my friend Susan, and the struggles she's gone through since her foot injury last April. She did not take her injury seriously, and subsequently, lost her left leg. She's endured many hardships and trials, but has almost always gone through with a wonderful positive Christian-like attitude. I say almost, because when they told her she wasn't going home after she thought she should, she gave them what for ... but it also made her determined to fight harder to get home!

Susan's story is amazing ... after losing her fiance to a heart attack, about a year later, she lost her leg ... then gangrene settled in her neck, and she had to have neck surgery... then she had to go thru rehab, but was such a fighter, she purposed it in her heart to get the heck out of there! She was in the hospital from April till June, then she went to a nursing home for the rehab, and THANKFULLY now lives in a senior housing facility that is wheelchair accessible for all her needs.

Susan has such an awesome outlook, she named her short leg "PEG"... which just cracks me up! She's learned to adjust to her situation and gets around in her little kitchen, baking cookies for the kids at church for Wed nite suppers !!!

If you read this, please pray for Susan this Thursday and beyond ... she has to endure yet another surgery, as the screws they put in her neck to "hold her head on" (oh gross!), are working their way out, and causing great pain to the back of her neck. This time, she says, they will be going thru THE FRONT and put a plate in there to anchor the screws... I don't know how she does it ... well, actually, it's only by God's grace that she can endure such pain and trials ... and yet she still comes out smiling that sweet gentle smile. She's quite a gal, that Susan !

And the generosity of cyber friends over at SheaChic really restores our hope in this crazy hectic world! What a very generous gift provided to pamper my friend just a tad ... it includes some WONDERFUL Shea Butter lotion (love it!), a wonderfully scented candle, and some California soap... nice to the skin! THANKS APRIL ... YOU ROCK !

I became a MUF gal !

I decided to become a MUF gal, after I saw Kelly's post on my Crazy friend's blog ... And this is MY year for DOING what I want, WHEN I want to do it !!! I'm tired of always feeling like I'm under pressure operating on someone else's time schedules. This is the year I CLAIM MY TIME BACK !

I quit the PTO at Precious' former school ... the pressure and constant "putting out fires" all because someone else refused to plan, got to me. I like my ducks in a row, and my sewing room cleaned (but we all know THAT doesn't happen very much!) ... and so I had to adopt the slogan I used when I worked back at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach ... "lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part"! And I gotta tell ya, IT FEELS GOOD to be out from that pressure !

Also last year, I quit our church and all the drama that entangled us there. No volunteering, no leading classes ... it's all good! We are much more relaxed now, and I think sometimes in life, instead of life running you, you have to realize and take time to do life YOUR way!

And that's what MUF is for me ! MUF's is "Masterpieces Under Fermentation"! I'm gonna capture this year as MINE and work on WHAT projects I want to, and try new things, and NOT feel the pressure of "having" to finish it all up now... and Lord knows I have PLENTY of MUFs in my closet to bring out and work on. And this year will be the year I actually learn to machine quilt! I need to stop being a scaredy cat and get a handle on it ... I can do it ... I CAN do it!

AND I'm going to the HGTV Circle of Friends (COF) retreat! I missed out last year, and I was REALLY bummed that I didn't get to meet my Crazy friend up there ... but I'm not missing out this year! And I have already booked my airline ticket for 1/2 of what I originally saw it for... just got such a good deal, how could I possibly refuse? I really think this is a blessing from my Lord!

I did get to work on a couple projects for the Secret Sister swap over at HGTV quilting message board ... but I can't post pics, cause then she'd know who I am ... I LOVE SURPRISES !

Have a GREAT day! I'm off to clean Melissa's house (earning bucks for COF), and I get to work for only about an hour at Precious' school, helping her teacher out in the copy room... NO DRAMA THERE ! Y'all be blessed today!

New Year ~ New Goals !

Well here it is 2011 ... WoW !!! With my old lifestyle, I SERIOUSLY did not expect to live this long ... but I THANK GOD for His mercies, His grace and His sustaining my life. And with His help, this will be a GREAT year, and one that I get some things under control ! First all, mine and hubby's health and weight. I've been slipping on taking care of Steve's dietary needs for awhile, and gotten back into my old ways... enough! Today, I clean out all the cupboards of junk, throw away a major amount of junk food, and start getting back on track. I don't want the Dr to put him on cholesterol pills, so I need to get my focus back right. Secondly, I want to drop some weight for a special plane ride I'll be taking at the end of April ! More on that later :)

Reading through some blogs this morning, I found myself captivated by all that people do throughout a year ... and it got me to thinking... WHAT ON EARTH HAVE I COMPLETED THIS YEAR ? It's been a crazy mixed-up, not-real-productive year ... so let's see if I can post some pics on something I might have done ...

I held my annual PIN CUSHION SWAP ... which is SEW much fun ! People are so absolutely creative in their thinking and designing! What a fun swap to have !
I made some pot holders and towels for a CRAZY friend ... and for my secret sister at church, and a couple other friends as gifts ... they're fast and easy... and a fun gift to receive!
I put together 2 wall hangings from blocks I did in a swap a while back
I'm STILL in the process of sewing Susan's quilt of love for the church ladies... altho the top is now complete so will try to "sandwich" it today :)
I made a cute little wall hanging for my hubby's office, but by the look on his face it wasn't what he wanted, so I kept it for my Americana decor sewing room :)
I made some pillowcases this year ... THEY'RE FUN ! I made a few for my friend Susan, cause her's is an on-going battle... so I made a spring, summer, fall ... guess I haven't gotten around to winter yet, but that can come AFTER her quilt! I also made some for my friend Betty, who is an angel of care giving ... she looks after so many and does so much volunteer work!
I also made some for mom, for dad, for daughter Melissa, SIL Jack, and for PRECIOUS of course. I even got around to making a pair for Stevie :) I need to FIX the fact that I haven't made any for ME !!! That's a 2011 goal :)

AND so looking over the LACK of fun I had last year ... this IS the year that I do more sewing! I've just been wasting alot of my time on doing time-sucking things ... so in the mornings, after checking email and facebook (I can't give it up entirely!), I will be shutting DOWN the computer for the day and not turning it on til the evening time. Between housework, decluttering, and sewing, I won't have time to be wasted... and I'm sure my life will show more productivity through projects and such ! I'm excited to get this going...

Now over at the HGTV Quilting & Needlework Message Board, my CRAZY friend and I are again hosting the HGTV 2011 BOM, and this year the theme again is STARS ... but it's in the BARN DOOR ! I LOVE putting together this BOM and seeing the wonderful minds that start to stir as they post their pictures! It amazes me how beautiful people can see things in their mind's eye, and then put it to use with fabric. The process of picking out fabrics and auditioning is my hardest part of sewing ... but maybe with practice !

So I completed my January block for the BOM ... I decided to do the stars in Civil War Reproductions, and the barn and outside not ... but I may be rethinking that before February! I really like the middle, but not sure of the outside ... may be too bright! I also discovered I need MORE practice on sewing... not being productive is not good for the skills, so I'm determined to fix that this year !

I started reading my GREAT gift from my Crazy friend, Magic Stars by Nancy Johnson-Srebro. She teaches how to make stars without Y-seams and diamonds. And I do have to admit... it was EASY ! A little wasteful on fabric, I thought, but THAT will lend itself to another bit of fun, making fabric postcards... but that another blog day!

And in my spirit of more sewing, I decided I will be going thru the book and doing each and every star with her directions... That will give me more sewing AND more practice! So here's my first one! I used the same Civil War Repro's I did for my BOM, and I think I will turn this into a table topper for MY table! After all ... a new year, new goals, MORE SEWING FOR ME !!!

My prayer this year is to stay focused on my Lord ... to work on my relationship with Him to bring me closer to Him and to find where HE wants us to worship Him and to serve Him in a manner that would bring Him honor and glory... for He is so worthy! Have a blessed day y'all !

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!

I just wanted to pop in and say HAPPY NEW YEAR! I'm so excited that the old year has past and a new one gives me a sense of renewal, refreshment and rejuvenation! I'm ready to make this a year for me, so far as my being able to spend time sewing ... it's my third love. And I want to make sure my first two loves (Jesus and family), are put in their proper priority as well ... I'll be posting pictures later, but need to get ready for church. I tried to post something yesterday, but that lil Precious was here for 3 days... well, and I just can't seem to do much except her!

Oh yeah, we did sew! I needed to spend a day in the sewing room with my favorite lil girl ... that's her with her mini Janome! She loves to sew, and since she moved 15 miles away, we just don't seem to get to do it like we want ... but the new year will be a different focus. She and I decided that we need to sew together at least twice a month... it'll help build her confidence and give me some special G'ma time!

She wanted to make a little magnet for her dishwasher at home so they can tell if her dishes are clean or dirty! She designed and sewed the whole thing, from start to finish. It was WAY FUN !

HAPPY NEW YEAR Y'all ... Hoping this year will be a blessing to all!

Past Christmas ... what happened ?

Here it is past Christmas, and I didn't even post any pictures of our fun ! Bad G'ma... BAD G'MA !

Here's my Precious with an ornament she got in preschool, with her as a baby ... she's STILL just as cute as ever :) o my heart!

We had Precious over to help decorate our tree and set up Nativity sets ...

And our tree is beautiful !

and she talked Poppy into making Christmas cookies while they were at it ! They had SUCH a great time!

These are pillow case sets I made for Precious and family ... Melissa & Jack LOVE black ... and Precious got a black sheet set for Christmas, so had to throw in some Girl Scout cookies !!!

I let Precious open my quilty gift from my VBQFF, who is a wild and crazy quilter! You know her! She's the one they CALL CRAZY! Go on over and check out her fun ... she's encouraging and an over-achiever who loves to push me ... Maybe 2011 will be the year I actually get moving! {{hugs}}

So this pretty thing is my Precious gift from The Lord ... and next to my free gift of Salvation, she's been the best. She is the delight of my life, and fulfills the need I had to be a Grandma... Did I ever tell you that The Lord had me pray for her a full year before Melissa was expecting? He's a GOOD GOD who has given me the desires of my heart ... Just like His Word said He would! Psalm 37:4

Christmas Project for Precious !!!

Here's a project I designed for my Precious Granddaughter ... Since she moved to the city and has neighbors to play with, I wanted to make her something she could take and have some fun ... So I designed a lap quilt in her favorite color, PURPLE, and I had a lot of fun doing this, dreaming of her taking her special made gift with her to play with friends!

This is it ...
all closed up
and ready to carry !

You can then untie it and take it apart... the bag is full of playing pieces !

I'm usually (must I confess?) afraid of quilting on items ... but this I did, and the back of it is quilted in a checkerboard pattern!

And here's the results ... a fun cloth and quilted checkerboard ! The checkers pieces are fun buttons!

She'll be getting it tomorrow on Christmas Day, so I'm delighted to give her a gift with my love. She IS my heart, and my special gift from The Lord ... that's why I call her PRECIOUS !

It's beginning to look a lot like .... GIVEAWAY !

First of all, THANKS to all who helped give my friend SUSAN the GIFT FROM SHEA CHIC ... She won the voting, and will receive an awesome package ... (see post below)

NOW ... I was involved in a mug rug Christmas gift exchange with some sweet gals form the HGTV Quilting Message Board ... that's where most of my quilty friends hang out ... This is what I received from my friend JACKY ... She knows how much I love chickens, and (hopefully) had as much fun making these (well almost) as I did receiving them! They are PERFECT for me! Jacky, you're the best !

Here's the one I made for my partner, Malou (her name is Mary Lou)... I hope she likes hers as well... I sent it with some coffee!

It was fun to make, and felt SEW GOOD to be back in my sewing room ... will have to do more of that ! Have a HAPPY DAY !

My friend SUSAN GRAY is so deserving! Susan has had a trying year, to say the least... she injured her foot last April, and then lost her leg when gangrene set in. The infection also settled in her neck, and she had to have neck surgery just a few months after her amputation. She has spent many months in rehab therapy, tests, and obstacles that many of us couldn't face ... and YET she has the BEST ATTITUDE you have ever seen! She named her short leg "Peggy", and has embraced her circumstances with a smile. She doesn't have pity parties, and doesn't let others pity her either... she's learned to do her own laundry, to get around a little apartment, and to care for herself, after a lifetime of being a healthcare giver for others. She has been so strong all thru this, including her rehab, and just yesterday received her artificial leg so that she can get up and around again! SUSAN GRAY deserves such a nice gift and would be so helpful to her lovely skin.

I LOVE jammie days !

This weekend was a GREAT weekend spent with friends we invited over for a little Christmas get together and fellowship ... such fun. Most were friends we don't get to see too much of since leaving our little country church :( What a DELIGHT to my heart to have them all gathered ... at MY home !

We had GREAT Mexican food (the best in Missouri) :) and wonderful cheesecakes from our friends Roy & Jean. Roy is the cheesecake king in my book! He even made an experimental KEY LIME cheesecake for my daughter Melissa as we also celebrated her birthday that night ! :) It was SO DELISH!

Yesterday, Sunday, it was bitter cold, high winds, snow, just frigid... so we declared jammie day and Steve and I stayed home, and just relaxed. He helped me so much on Saturday, I promised him a day of complete relaxation and good treats ... which we did !

I also got a chance to sew a mug rug for a swap with some cyber friends ... this one I made for my friend ... well, I'll tell ya after I mail it, cause shhhh! ... She doesn't know yet! It was fun and pretty fast, and I really did enjoy just spending the day in the sewing room in my jammies ... AS IT SHOULD BE !

I'm looking forward to MORE jammie days in the sewing room as this cold weather continues ... y'all be blessed now !

WHY IS IT SO HARD TO DO ?

Does anyone else have a hard time in finding posting time, in a consistent manner? I seem to go thru spurts ... here I post, here I don't ... maybe if I spent LESS time on computer, and MORE time sewing, I'd have pictures to share and want to post more.

Right now we're getting ready for the holidays, and a Christmas party with friends to celebrate God's Ultimate Gift ... His Son, Jesus Christ. We are hosting our friends on Saturday night ... altho we are expecting snow... hopefully the weatherman will be wrong once again, and it'll bypass us :)

We're having a traditional Southern Calif Christmas dinner ... even tho I live in the MOzarks ... we're having pork tamales, chicken tamales, homemade refried beans, beef enchiladas w/green sauce, and beef enchiladas with homemade red sauce and also posole... Bobby Flay style ... at least the stock is. The rest is up to my imagination and excellent taste buds ! Should be a good time and we are really looking forward to having a ton of friends over ... first party since moving to Missouri !

It's cold, my electric blanket is waiting for me, so I will bid y'all good nite and sweet dreams ! :)

OK ... so my Crazy friend says you gotta have pics on your blog ... and seeing's how she's my VBQFF, I do TRY to listen to her ... actually I always listen ... it's the "doing" part I don't get done alot ... so let's see what I have pics of ...

Well there IS my favorite subject ... PRECIOUS ! This is her third grade school pic that's a retake of the original day ... She's growing WAY too fast, and her mom had to buy her a size 14 jean so she could fit AND have a little room to grow ! What happened to that sweet baby? As she grows up, I seem to be shrinking down a little ... ALTHO the Dr's nurse said I was 5'1" last time... I started laughing my tail off ! She asked me why that was funny, and I told her I had never even been 5' EVER in my life ! And I'm older, and therefore, supposed to be going the "other" way ... My hubby laughed too ! I give ZUMBA the credit, as it makes me stretch and move stuff I haven't moved in a long time !

Then there's THIS little cute LOVE BUG! At her Awana class last week, they were supposed to dress up like something that GOD made ! Well He certainly made her ! And it was the day of her Dad's surgery, so we really weren't in a creative frame of mine, but her awesome Mommy got this together ... actually, I think it was a conglomination of both of their heads ... they ARE clones, you know!

Then ... I DO actually do something once in a while... I wish I had the organization and fortitude for energy that my Crazy friend has ... but here's a few things I've made ... but just a few ... I got Bible Study to get to this morning ... Kay Arthur's study of God's Covenant making. It's been a great study, so don't want to miss more than what I did while on vacation :)

Here's some towels I prettied up for my kitchen ... I think EVERYBODY needs chickens in the kitchen ... I used to have my cluckers JUST in the kitchen, but they've pilled over into other parts (aka everywhere) in my house ! :)

I was so jazzed looking at these, I whipped up a couple for my friend Lori's birthday party tonite ... you know me ... EVERYBODY should have chickens in their kitchen !

I'm hoping to get in some MAJOR sewing this weekend! Christmas is fast approaching us, as are other birthdays and Thanksgiving ... SEW I'd better get my tail feathers in gear ! Have a good one .... and be blessed !

What a LAZY GIRL ... and I'm not talking purses !

I cannot believe what a LAZY GIRL I have become about my blogging! Here I've been back from vacation for 3 weeks ... gone thru a fundraiser at Precious' old school, mountains of laundry, a woman's retreat, and a surgery for son-in-law ... and not ONE new picture of our vacation! I'm just being bad ... BAD I tell ya!

SO ... let's post some pics ... I know it's not sewing or quilting, but beautiful just the same !

We took the subway from Crystal City to Washington DC ... what a trip that was! Crystal City is a bunch of hotels and businesses that is built on top of an underground city ... it's a giant tunnel with shops and stores on both sides, and it all leads to this ... this is the subway tunnel we had to get to to get on the subway... it was clean, it was safe, and it was quite the experience !

When we finally got to the National Mall on our subway stop, we had to walk 2-1/2 MILES to get to the Lincoln Memorial ... it was a beautiful day, full of warmth and sun and nice tourists that took our picture! :)

All along the Mall, we looked at all the memorials ... the Washington Memorial was beautiful, but we decided to stay on the ground... this is where we were standing in front of the "reflecting pool" leading to the Lincoln Memorial.

This is the WHOLE REASON we went to Washington DC ... to visit "THE WALL". Steve is a Vietnam vet, and with that comes alot of pain... if you were there, or are married to a vet, then you understand. It's a beautiful memorial and tribute to so many who gave their lives ... and I sometimes ask "for what?" But with man and politics,comes war and, regretfully, death. It was a very hard memorial to visit, and seemed to be almost on Holy ground there ... We hugged and cried our way through it ... it's a very SAD place ... but through that sadness, I think healing is allowed to happen... and I know it was healing for the love of MY life !

After our Mall experience, I ventured out on my own for a couple days and let Steve allow his back to rest ... a couple nights on bad mattresses will really mess a guy up. I wanted to see Mt Vernon, the home of our first President, George Washington... so I took a subway ALL by myself, AND a bus, and got there and back all safely. I love history, and really enjoyed all the history and artifacts that went with this visit!

And ... OF COURSE ... I found quilting patterns everywhere I went ... this is one of my favorites ... altho you can't buy it in a store, it's in the ceiling for our Capitol's Rotundra (the dome) ... This was one of the most fascinating places I have ever been to ... the history, the architecture and everything about it was just fabulous for me ... I'd LOVE to see a quilt made of THIS pattern!

I'll post more pics later, cause it really was a FABULOUS vacation! I gotta say THANK YOU TO THE GENEROSITY OF OUR DAUGHTER, MELISSA, AND HER HUBBY JACK, FOR THEIR VERY GENEROUS GIFT OF SENDING US ON THIS VACATION! These memories will last us a lifetime, and we can never show our gratitude enough!

We are in Washington DC ... our nation's capital... what an EXCITING place! Lots of beautiful architecture, artistry, history, memorials, and people! We've been having a good time while we were here ...

We left Missouri last Wednesday morning and flew to Chicago then on to DC ... nice flying! Checked into the Radisson @ Crystal City and only about 10 minutes out of DC ... so we are close enough to get there easy, and far enough away to avoid the masses ... but how can we tell?

This is a noisy big city... seems like everywhere we go people are talking and talking, and no one listens! We've gone into restaurants, only to be asked to be set outside with the traffic and noise so that we could talk to each other and hear ourselves! Everywhere you go, people honk ... is it because they have horns? Or is it part of the noise factor for this neck of the non-woods?

One thing I did notice, and was quite impressed with is the etiquette of non cell phone use in the restaurants and most public places... now there's a couple people we've run into that do... but for the most part, the people that live and work here either turn them completely off, or on buzz, and when they take a call, they go outside ... personally, I wish more of the country would adopt this behavior!

We have had some of the BEST food ever! We started by eating at the Legal Seafood Restaurant, based out of Boston ... they have served their clam chowder at EVERY Presidential Inauguration since 1981 ... and OH MY GOSH! We can sure tell why! Steve and I eat clam chowder all over the place! We used to eat out every Friday night in the 80's, and every Friday night, we had clam chowder! Well THIS clam chowder has put them all to shame! It is the clammiest, the creamiest, the best balance of flavor we have ever tasted ... and I don't care what it costs ... IT'S WORTH IT ! We ate there for 2 dinners and a lunch while we were here!

After 17 years without one, we are actually on vacation in WASHINGTON, DC! Thanks to our beautiful daughter, Melissa, and her generous hubby Jack ... THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH FOR THIS AWESOME OPPORTUNITY and to realize a life-long dream.

I guess I got side-tracked while on vacation, but will post some pics when I do this ... I learned today from my CRAZY friend that I'm supposed to post a pic with each blog ... I wish Publish Postthey put together a manual for doin this stuff! THANKS CRAZY !

Susan's Blocks

Looking at my dashboard this morning, I realize it's been QUITE a while since I posted ... let's see, what have I been up to? I had been sewing some quilt blocks for an autograph quilt for my friend, Susan ... the women of the church wanted to put together a quilt for her, and so I thought a signature style quilt would be great ... so rather than have all the complexity of bringing down sewing machines to church along with cutting boards and cutters and such ... I just went ahead and took out some scraps and sewed together some scrappy blocks with the wonderful Kona white in the middle for signatures ... I'll post pics when I get back on my own computer. Then we had our usual 3rd Saturday women's gathering at church, and the gals of the church each took a quilt block and a fabric pen ... I asked them to sign it and write either a prayer or their favorite Scripture reference or verse on it, and that way Susan will be able to read the love and comfort people are praying for her. I'm not quite sure how many we've received, but will set the ink with an iron to preserve them for washing. Now Susan's favorite color (of course) is orange... ORANGE ! Anybody that knows me knows I do NOT like orange fabric... once in a while I'll come across that's so deep orange like autumn colors, that I can stand it.

So when I go to finish up, I'll have to take all this ORANGE fabric and put it all together ... it will be a quilt of love for a special lady who will be wrapped in God's love, His people's love, and many prayers that have come her way over the last 6 months of trials for her. Susan is such a WONDERFUL Christian lady who gives her all to help and serve others ... she certainly deserves such a small token of our love... Isn't God just SO WONDERFUL to bring people together like this? When I get home, I'll post some pics ... for sure :)

My friend Susan ... bless her heart ... has really gone through A LOT !!! So many quilters sent her little single-block wall hangings to help decorate her nursing home room while she was recuperating for everything ... you can find her story on my blog HERE. She's such a sweet lady who truly loves AND trusts The Lord in all her life! Well after the wall hangings, and I shared with our women's group at church, they decided they wanted to do something like that ... and our desire to make Sue Sue a quilt was born! I found this pattern in McCall's Quick Quilts magazine from May 2005.

So I starting cutting out fabric of BRIGHTS ! She loves brights! And sewed them together ... O what a pile they made!

Saturday is the big day ... I'll be taking them to church for the ladies to sign with their favorite Scripture verses or prayers for Susan ... will update when done !

Yep ... it's my birthday... and I gotta say... I'm VERY THANKFUL to God for keeping me alive this long, and giving me a beautiful family and lots of friends. After the life I led before I met Christ, it really IS a miracle that I'm alive today! :) I have an old saying ... "if I had known I'd live this long, I would'a taken better care of myself"... and that's the truth! :)

THANKS TO MY CRAZY FRIEND for drawing my attention to my blog ... AND for the cool sewing gift... nothing like another quilter to give you the PERFECT Birthday gift ... (that's the love) and the FUN birthday gift (that's the sewing)... so Crazy... Sew away for my birthday in celebration!

I have become a ZUMBA nut! I absolutely LOVE Zumba!!! What IS Zumba you ask? ZUMBA is the funnest, most awesome time of exercise you will ever have! EXERCISE you say ??? Yep... I said it! EXERCISE! And we always thought it was an oxy-moron to say Lindsay AND exercise in the same sentence! LOL For 1 hour you step, you move, you dance, you shake it, you let your inhibitions go, work up a sweat and just have a GREAT time! And ... you get to learn some "latin dancing" moves ... it's taking the country by storm!

There's an awesome gal who lives locally... her name is Charise ... she's our Zumba instructor. This woman is 50 years old and has more energy than the 20-somethings that take her class... unbelievable energy and stamina! She's a cancer survivor, and has a zest for life that you would have to see to believe! Her story is one of inspiration and amazement in seeing what GOD has done in and through her life... and how she gives back to others because of her blessings... you can find Charise HERE. The picture in green is her costume at the Zumba convention she attended this month in Florida ... she's representing the state of Missouri ... I guess cause it's so GREEN here ! LOL ... and Zumba Fitness IS green!

Charise does 6 classes a week of Zumba ... how, I don't know! At 2 of those classes, she's worked out an arrangment with The Bridge Church in Nixa to let her use their giant room for free... and in return, she only charges $1 per session for Zumba ... it's usually $5 or $6 a class ... and she PACKS THEM IN ! Her and her assistant Sonja really ROCK the house, get your blood flowing, and your energy goin, and it just MAKES you want to move to the great tunes they play!

If you haven't tried ZUMBA ... look it up here ... not everyone looks like the models on pics ... but I think that if you DID Zumba all the time... you COULD look like that, or at least healthier! Most of the people (especially the men ... sorry guys) in our classes are not that coordinated... but it's fun to move to the music, and learn the Zumba steps... to me, it's like disco without a partner to new millennium music! And even though you may not know the steps, or can even keep time to the music... you just laugh about it all and have a good time... and burn about 500 to 800 calories per class! I've found when I exercise Zumba, my ankles stop swelling, I have more energy and I'm more productive! I'm doing it 2 times a week, and wanting to purchase the DVD set so I can do it in the winter time when weather won't allow me to go out!

If you're doing Weight Watchers, you get 8 activity points for 1 hour of Zumba! Give it a try ... let me know what YOU think about Zumba ... I LOVE ZUMBA ! And Charise is such an inspiration to others to get healthy and have fun doing it! We love you Charise!

Today is Labor Day in the US ... a day set aside to honor all those hard working Americans who give everyday in leaving their homes and going to work for somebody else ... well, a good many of them do anyway. I'd just like to say THANKS to my hubby, Steve ... who has always been an awesome provider through our 34 years of marriage, and has worked some jobs he didn't like, and some he absolutely hated! But everyday he's out there making it possible for us to live in the manner to which we've becomed accustomed. He makes it possible for me to hang out at home, not have to go for a job, and cook, sew and volunteer like I love to do... THANK YOU HONEY! for all you do to support us! I love you ... and Lord, please BLESS his business!

I've actually had a little time for sewing! I've done 2 baby blankets for special babies, and I also did a set of pillowcases for my friend Susan ... I made her a really soft flannel one when she first into the hospital, and then I made her a red / white / blue one for July 4th, but it wasn't flags... it was strands of pearls on fabric ... very pretty, and very girly!

So now I figure she needs some bright colors of summer ... so I made a set of these. I had these already cut out, so I just sewed! Will get by to see her this weekend and make a special delivery !

Won't these brighten up any room ? Hmmm ...

What can I say when life happens? God allows things that we don't always understand, and I think it's a test of faith to be able to go thru the trials of life and still remain standing WITH JOY! It's tough being in ministry... you get attacked from different sides, and it really just whips you down.... Please pray for my church ... the Lord is allowing a whole bunch of junk that we don't understand ... and please pray for us ... I'm retreating into a hole for awhile, praying and seeking what God wants me to do from here. I'm cancelling all church activities for awhile, so should leave me with time to sew ... that's a good thing! I worked on a baby blanket last night for little Kayden, who the doctor's said wouldn't make it thru the first night of life ... BUT GOD !

God has a special plan for this young man's life ... and I wish you could see the faith of his mama ... Every Sunday she is at church, because she knows where she gets her strength... from The Lord ... go meet Mr. Kayden here and say a prayer for him while you're there, will ya?

I'm in the mood this morning ... to sew something fun for Precious ! So in my explorations of fun blogs this morning, I ran across this free pattern from Oliver + S blog site. It's a free pattern they put up, and it's a "measure your own length" kinda skirt, and the hem on it is done with ribbon! How fun and simple is that! I'll have to post some pics when I get it finished for Precious ... I'm hoping she'll like it ... she's kinda peculiar these day... after all, she IS 8 years old you know !

Today is The Lord's Day ... well actually, they ALL are! But we'll be going to church this morning. If you are a pray-er, please lift up Doug, Leona and Marissa, who traveled to Nicaragua yesterday to spend a week in the jungle sharing the Gospel and helping to set up a school they built last year. They, and a number of people from other churches, are taking donated school supplies, as the children there must supply their own uniforms and school supplies in order to even go to school. God has provided everything they need! PTL !!! They will be returning home next Saturday, so appreciate your prayers all week!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY !

Thirty four years ago, I ran off to Vegas with my live in boyfriend and we got married ... it was a shock to everyone except my mom... back then I always told her everything. she wanted to throw us a reception when we got back to celebrate and tell our friends !

Steve and I met in 1975, after he returned from a year long trip through South America. I met up with his friends in Long Beach, and used to read his letters he would send them. I'd think ... "who is this crazy guy with really bad handwriting!" And I was the girlfriend of a friend of his when he returned. I remember that night ... it was like sparks for me ... and soon after, the old boyfriend and I broke up... he was very explosive and I knew we couldn't stay together.

Anyway, Steve and I dated while he had a broken jaw, and our dates would be Dairy Q malts and movies ... even then he was so sweet. We just liked being together. So we moved in together, and almost a year after that we ran off to Vegas for a week long honeymoon on Lake Mead. We were so young, and quite naive, and just had a fly by the seat of our pants kinda attitude!

I never would have dreamed that we would be together 34 years later! That first week I thought we had made a mistake, and wanted a divorce... but that's how I've always done ... run from something I don't want to do anymore ... and Steve has been the same he's always been these years ... he hangs in there and talks me down, and knows just what to say.

Now I can't say these 34 years have been the most easy, or even the most pleasant for that matter. But since we came to know the Lord Jesus, our relationship has totally changed, and Steve is my best friend ... for life. God has brought us through the saddest of times, the most turbulent of times, and also the best of times! I'm so thankful that today, 34 years later, I am still married to my life-long sweetheart, and I look forward to the next 34 years with him. THANK YOU LORD for such a wonderful loving and patient man!

YAY !!! This is THE DAY ... my family comes home!

Three and a half weeks ago, my daughter got a wild hair, as she sometimes does, and took her family on a "road trip"... she up and quit her job and took off for almost a month! Her wild hairs amaze me, but I must say, she comes by it honestly... it's in her genes.

Well today they come home!!! I am going thru Precious withdrawals, and really need some grand baby hugs! I bet she's grown 2 feet, well maybe 2 inches... and I just want to squeeze her to pieces!

I was talking with Precious on the phone yesterday, and when we hang up, we do a BIG ole long "mwah" kiss ... her's goes on and on and on... she was crackin me up ... then she says "I'm squeezin the mwah outta me"... I thought I would never stop laughin ... that girl gets me happy like no one on God's sweet green earth.

She is a direct answer to prayer... God had me start praying for her about a year and a half before she was born... He had me start praying for a grand baby ... so I did. Melissa was going thru a really rough time in her life then, and I was crying and praying for her one day on the way to work. And I prayed "please Lord, save her, whatever it takes"... now if you pray a prayer like that, you better be ready for whatever God gives you. And after losing my son back in 94, I knew that was a prayer of faith...

It was about 2 months later that Melissa told us she was pregnant, and the Good Lord saved Melissa's life thru Precious, and now Melissa, husband Jack, and my Precious are all walking their lives with the Lord ... GOD IS SO VERY GOOD!

Enjoy this beautiful day wherever you are ... if you're breathing, it's a beautiful day the Lord has made ... I'm gonna rejoice and be glad in it! AND ... I get some Precious snuggles today :)

What happenend to July ?

I can't believe that July has come to an end already! Altho I must say, I'm not much disappointed. This year has been HOT, HOT, HOT!!! And I don't much like the heat. Last summer I thought I was in paradise, and went for days and days without turning on the air conditioning... this year? I think I've had it off 1 day... it's been the typical Missouri hot and humid! I'm ready for the fall already!

I've been working on a purse for my secret sister at church ... it's a little late, but will be nice no matter, and I will post a pic when it's completed, hopefully today! I don't have much to go on it, and it was not as easy as I had thought ... oh it's not hard to do, it's just my QuiltersADD mind won't let me do something without trying to modify it ... for some reason, I didn't think the pattern was big enough, so I enlarged it, and then had to cut it down cause it's so stinkin BIG! When will I ever learn?

I did a baby blanket last week for a new mom at church, Miki ... she had baby Kaleb at 25 weeks along ... and he only weight 1 pound, 13 ounces ... Doctor's these days can do SUCH amazing things with medicine! Kaleb is now over 4 pounds, still in the hospital, still with his challenges, and the parents drive to the hospital every day to care for him. He's such a cutie!

Anyway, I made a blanket out of some felt and fleece I dug out of my tub stash... finally got rid of that orange fleece! Good grief, I thought it was gonna blind me while sewing! For those of you that know me, you know I don't much care (actually NOT) for orange fabric... altho I must confess I bought some the other day ... but it's a really deep, rich color ... not like a popcicle! It was fun making a baby blanket again... and if you happen to think of Kaleb, please keep him, mommy Miki and daddy Paul in your prayers !

I'm still running the HGTV Block of the Month over at the Quilting & Needlework message board ... have you been there yet? You can find it at www.hgtv.com, and then down on the very bottom is a link for their message boards ... find the Quilting board, and check us out... we have LOTS of fun there... friendships made, projects completed, stash shared... it's ALL GOOD over there!

So I do a guessing game the end of each month to see if the quilters can guess which block the next month's block will be ... we have some fun, lots of laughs, and the correct answers get their names into a hat and Precious pulls one (or more, depending on my mood) out... and then I send them a fat quarter. And on the 1st of the month, we reveal the block and link to the directions... and my Crazy'BoutQuilts buddy puts up the instructions for a mini to go along with the 12" block ... we even have given a layout suggestion ... ONLY a suggestion ... cause there are so many talented quilters out there who are so creative... they sometimes come up with there own layouts! If you haven't checked us out, come join the fun! It's never to late to start, you can catch up, and the cost is free ... well, that is unless you want to go buy some stash! Any ole excuse, right?

I'm off to the sewing room, and to do some church work also today... Stevie brought home some bass and catfish last night after his fishin trip, so I will be making some FISH TACOS today for supper, along with some fresh salsa from our garden tomatoes... so I have a busy day ahead, and need to get started. Tuesday !! I'm ready for my girls to get home !

My daughter Melissa, and my Precious grand daughter, "Precious", along with daddy Jack have been on a trip... they left here almost 3 weeks ago and have been "road trippin"! Jack and Melissa have only been married for 3-1/2 years, so there's a lot of family the girls have never met... Precious is SO EXCITED to meet new aunts and cousins and great-grandparents!

They started out in Missouri, then straight thru to Vegas (what no sleep?)... there they visited Jack's sister and family, and the girls got to meet their new family members. There was some good pics of Precious in front of Hoover Dam ... Then on to California where they spent time with my family (well, her family too) and her friends (and some of mine too!) ... My Mom was in 7th heaven having Precious "camp out" at her house, and she got to meet my dad ... all that time we lived in Calif, and he never even tried to meet her ... I have a word for that ... but I'll be nice :) They also got to see my bro, his new wife, and even attend the church that Steve planted back in 2000 ... they will be celebrating the 10th anniversary next month! Praise the LORD !

They've had a good time just acting like real tourists! They spent a few days at Disneyland park, and met up with some friends from Melissa's high school ... then on to SeaWorld and San Diego, and Precious got to hang out with her "cousins" ... grandkids of our friend (and her's), Teacher Roxie. Roxie now has 5 grandkids, all younger than Precious, so they had a great time at a great place! They also got to spend some time at Jack's aunt's house, and visit with his Grandma and some other relatives ... and of course they all LOVED Precious!

And part of Melissa's adventures, was she'd be sending me pics on facebook of restaurants we don't have in Missouri ... like IN-N-OUT BURGER !!! She'll be getting her spanking when she gets home ! AND she got to eat the BEST Mexican food in Calimesa (wish they could bring ME some home!)!!!!

Sunday they traveled to the Grand Canyon. Got to spend the day there yesterday, and now they are on their way to Denver to visit Jack's dad. The girls have never got a chance to meet him, so this will be a fun adventure for them! They choose to travel all night on some of these legs, and I don't care how old your baby is, mama STILL can't sleep when they're out all night! I did get a few hours in, but I guess a NAP is on my agenda today ... after she "lands" in Denver, that is!

They'll spend a couple days there, then stop off in Kansas to meet up with Melissa's grand parents in Salina ... they are THE BEST in-laws a girl could ever want, and I am blessed to have them as such!

I think I'll go sew for a while ... I have some projects on-going ... isn't that how we're supposed to do that? Hope y'all have a BLESSED DAY and remember ... PRAISE THE LORD !

WOW! 3 comments, all in one day! I'm on a roll now :) Seriously tho, I've had a good day...

I really got blessed yesterday by Susan Gray and my visit to her at the nursing home. For Susan's story, look back a couple blog postings ...

I was able to take some little QUILTY wall hangings with me from friends at the HGTV Message Board, who sent WHs made with love and prayers on her behalf ! Her room is now BEAUTIFULLY decorated, and it lifted her spirits immensely ...

Yes, God DOES work in mysterious ways ... even thru quilty friends on the internet! HE IS SO GOOD !

SO .... if you SEW and you would like to be a part of this blessing... IT'S NOT TOO LATE ! Any time any one can make a little mini WH ... I will make sure Susan gets it to decorate up her room ! Most of them are a 12" square that they've put borders on and a little binding, along with A MUCH NEEDED LOOP! And then they write a little sentiment with a fabric marker on the back ... some write good wishes, some write where it's from, and some put their favorite Scripture, or little saying to help lift her up ! If you'd like info on where to send them, just write a comment, and I'll be happy to answer!

TOO Much Heat ! 21 July 2010

It's just TOO darn hot! Our evenings barely even get into the 70s at night, and the days have been in the 3-digits with the heat index ... AND HUMIDITY! And then last night, our air conditioner decided to take a nose dive! The nerve!

So I got on the phone with my local AC company, and my friend Deidre made sure I was on the schedule for today to get this fixed. NO WAY can I possibly handle living in the heat and humidity without my best appliance ... the air conditioning. So THANKS DEIDRE for getting me scheduled for today! Just goes as that ole saying ... it's not WHAT you know but WHO you know!

So til my AC gets taken care of ... I'm in my WONDERFUL basement ... thankful for the 5 ceiling fans we installed when we did the remodel! I can be a hermit for a while for the cool! :) Happy Day!

Gosh! Half of July is already gone... it's been a busy month! I've been helping to plan a VBS program for our church, and being the organized planner that I am, was having numerous meetings, doing paperwork, creating forms, and then last week was the VBS program, where I was in the background AND I got a chance to play Sheriff! It was a GREAT time had by all... we have some awesome leaders in our church who worked with the kids, and some of them even came to know The Lord as Savior last week! It was wonderful! And (yeah) now it's done! God is good!

Now for another project that is near and dear to my heart, and I've been organizing as well ... here's the story of my friend SUSAN ... and how it was posted on the HGTV message board... and because QUILTERS HAVE THE MOST GENEROUS HEARTS, they responded with their love as only quilters can !

I have a friend ... Susan ... who is in a major battle. She needs some QUILTY LOVE! I've known Susan for over a year now. We met at church, and she found her one true love there after years of caring for her parents and never even dating. She was wanting to meet the right person... and finally did. They became engaged and 2 days later, Les died. ♥♥

She then injured her foot at a restaurant, and didn't get care for it. She wound up losing her leg just below the knee. What an encouraging soul she is though... you go to see her, and she encourages you! She was supposed to get out of the rehab center in June, but everything had not completely healed, and she started hyper-baric oxygen treatments. ♥♥

All during this time, she has complained of headaches... test results showed a deteriorating bone in her neck, so they ran an MRI. It shows gangrene has set in her #2 back bone where the spine and head meet (or something to that effect). My poor friend is devastated, to say the least, and is now looking at long-term hospitalization and possible surgery. They have her on numerous major antibiotics, and are just hoping that it does not deteriorate the bone too drastically. ♥♥

This is a major set-back for my independent friend. She is one of the most giving as well as sweetest people you could ever meet. She's a "if you like my shirt, it's yours" kinda gal. She's been either in the actue hospital or rehab facility since May 1st... and it truly is a miracle that she is even alive with the infection she had in her leg, and now this...

Susan is in need of some encouragement! I was wondering if you would be willing to show some QUILTY LOVE to my friend.... I'm thinking a little quilt block wall hanging... just 1 block would be awesome, with a binding on it, and a little loop for hanging. I figured I would go and buy some of those 3M easy-to-remove type hangers, so they can be taken down and moved no matter what hospital she would be moved to.

I don't care what size ... her favorite colors are sherbet colors ... think raspberry, lime green, yellows, and even (ick) orange sherbet. Would you be able to help? It would be such a blessing to a gal who could really use some encouragement! ♥♥

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your help in bringing some sunshine to a really sweet but discouraged gal... she doesn't quilt but she does embroider ! And even just a couple of items would really cheer up a dreary hospital room that she's spending WAY TOO MUCH time in.... ♥♥ And if you can't do this for my friend ... please say a prayer for her ... she needs that most of all! ... God Bless You !!! ♥♥

And needless to say ... they are responding! I've taken 7 little single-block quilts over to Susan already, and now they are gonna move her into another room, so I'm waiting on taking the other 10 or 12 I have on my couch already... and more are on the way! I'll put some in a photo album for all to see!

So as you are sewing or going about your day, won't you PLEASE remember my friend Susan in prayer? A little prayer GOES A LONG WAY ! Thank you and God's many blessings to you !

WoW ! What a Vacation!!! 26 Jun 2010

Holy Cow ! What a whirl wind week I've had with my friend Crafty ... she's known as Shauna's Crafty Quilter on the HGTV Quilting message board. We "met" on the message board about 2 years ago after my exploding eggs episode ... and hit it off. then we started IM'g, and then talking on the phone, and now she has driven down from North Dakota to spend a week with me ... and WHAT A WEEK IT WAS !

We started, of course, with a trip to a Local Quilt Shop (LQS)... we chose Quilts & Quilts in Branson. If you ever get to Branson, do stop in... they have a WONDERFUL selection of patterns and books ... and of course, FABRIC! We spent a couple hours there! Tuesday we went to the Hollywood Wax Museum ... Crafty wanted to do some tourist things, and it was FUN ! Wednesday we RODE THE DUCKS ... they are an amphibious vehicle that was used in WWII and can go by land or sea ... it was a refreshing dip in Table Rock Lake, and I LOVED it when they QUACKED her happy birthday!

On Thursday we met up with some more quilty friends from Arkansas... Rainbow and NICU Nurse... what fun they are! I had met them before, but they wanted to come meet Crafty, so we met in Arkansas at a fun fabric store called the Rag Barn, and then on to Country Corner Quilt Shop... LOVE that place! We had a great time, then went to lunch in Harrison. We all ventured back up to Branson, where we stopped in again at Quilts & Quilts and had a little therapy fun... then to walmart for salad in a bag and a rotisserie chicken... I refused to cook on vacation! We made our way up to my house, and had a healthy supper, girl style, and then gabbed most of the night. Steve had gone fishin that night, and came home about quarter til 2am, only to find 4 gabby women still up! It was a fun girls' night !

Friday morning we ventured out to Springfield and Bass Pro Shop to eat breakfast on the buffet, and then shopped around for men stuff. It was a GREAT time with friends, shopping, sight seeing, and just plain relaxing and having fun... it's been a long time since I've done any of that, and I enjoyed it to the fullest!

THANKS CRAFTY for a GREAT vacation and fun! I can't believe you're such a crazy gal that you would drive 800+ miles to come stay with someone you didn't even know... I might have been a serial something, you know! hahaha

So now it's back to the REAL WORLD... laundry, cooking, and even a little sewing. After a great therapy session over lunch the other day, I'm re-prioritizing my work schedule and volunteering, and making sure I have some time in there for me ... at least RIGHT AFTER VBS which is in 2 weeks! Hope y'all have a blessed day ... and spend some time with friends!

It's TUESDAY ALREADY !!! .... Jun 15.10

WoW ! Can't believe it's already Tuesday ... so much to do, so little time! My friend Crafty Shauna is coming on Saturday ... we were planning her route last night, and decided I can't wait the extra time for her to get to me, so I'm gonna meet her just south of Springfield and we'll have dinner @ Ruby Tuesday's so I don't have to cook, but she can get some nourishment before our "gab fest" on Saturday night!

Life is busy with VBS planning ... ours will run from July 12th thru July 16th, with a big ole cook out bonfire on the 11th ... Will be so fun! Looking forward to seeing what the Lord will do during that week in the hearts and lives of those kids ... and hoping we can get the schedule settled down today without any further changes. It takes ALOT of work to put this together, so if you're a part of VBS, or your child is, please THANK the coordinators! We've already been working on this for over a month, and it's still another month away ... but it's all for HIS Glory !

I "met" a cousin of mine on facebook this morning. I haven't seen him since he was like 6 years old or so... really blessed my heart, and he's put together a video of him growing up and some old family pics. Absolutely LOVED that... and looking forward to getting to know him more.

Wish I had some pics to show of something I've sewn ... but I guess you'd have to sew to get pics in ... so for now I'll just try to keep in the habit of blogging. I've got packages to mail to mama, and a dear friend in Texas ... so here's wishing you a JOYFUL and prosperous day ... that's what I need ... a prosperous day ... prosperous with my time, that is! How BLESSED can we get ? It's Sunday! Jun 13.10

What an AWESOME day in church this morning! Our church is a Spirit run church ... Bible fed and Spirit led ... there is SO much love there! I go to Hurley Baptist Church, and a few weeks ago my husband, Steve, was called to be the Associate Pastor, replacing someone who left due to unfortunate circumstances ... In 2000, Steve planted a church in Cabazon, CA while attending seminary. He was pastor there for 5 years, and we watched as GOD did amazing things in people's lives. When we left there in 2005, we knew God wanted us in Missouri, but didn't know why. And there were some tough roads to travel to get to MO.

Our Senior Pastor is out of town with a family medical situation. He asked Steve to fill in for him in the pulpit. Our old pastor in CA would NEVER have allowed that to happen, cause frankly... Steve didn't go to the RIGHT seminary as far as that guy was concerned! Anyway, so Steve got to fill in today, and God used him in such a mighty way today! No doubt in my mind ... Holy Spirit was moving, touching people's hearts and using Steve as His mouthpiece! I love it when I see Steve get out of God's way and just watch as HE moves!

Anyway, this is the first time Steve has preached the morning service at Hurley. It's tough filling in for a Pastor that everyone LOVES so dearly, and respects, and he is the shepherd of our church. Sometimes the people make it difficult, and won't give "the new guy" a chance... but I truly saw God's LOVE today, as people came up and told Steve they had been praying for him, people coming up and encouraging him, and even the Pastor's son made sure Steve had everything he needed... light, water, etc. I just am so humbled by what God does in that church! That was never offered to Steve before, even when he was sharing about mission work or whatever ... they never let him forget "his place"...

What a WONDERFUL GOD we serve and watching HIS people portray that love in such a real way.... I know the Good Lord was looking down today with a big smile on His sweet face, enjoying what He was watching!

GOD, You are GOOD ALL THE TIME! And YOU are changing people's hearts and people's lives ... PRAISE YOU !

I will never be the same again, I will never return,
I've closed the door
I will walk apart, I'll run the race
And I will never be the same again.

And it's all because of what JESUS did for me on that Cross ... He did that for you too, you know!

I'M SO SEW SO EXCITED ! Jun.12.10

In one week, I get to meet my friend, Shauna's Crafty Quilter. And I do mean MEET ! Crafty and I are members of the HGTV Quilting Message Board... you can find them at http://boards.hgtv.com/eve/forums/a ... then click on the "Quilting and Needlework" Message Board ... it's a GREAT place to hang out, make new friends, learn to quilt or do other needlework, and just have a lot of fun! There's swapping of fabric, swaps of blocks, projects, charity projects, lots of new and fun projects!

Well about 2 years ago, Shauna was new to the message board... I had been on for awhile. I'm known for lovin chickens ... all types. Anyway, one day I was boiling some eggs, and went downstairs to get something, wound up getting on the computer and spaced out the time (who? me???), and heard this noise coming from upstairs. As I climbed the stairs to see what the racket was, I smelled an awful smell .. O M Gosh! EGGS !

So I run over to the stove just as one EXPLODED all over the place... well, that was not the first one! I had eggs all over the stove, the countertops, the kitchen table clear across the room, and even the ceiling! There were burned up, smelling, exploded eggs EVERYWHERE ! It was horrible!

So, I thought I would share it with my internet friends, and I posted about it, and even put a picture in... THAT'S how I met Shauna online. She thought my misfortune was hilarious! Can you imagine? I liked her sense of humor, so we started connecting on the boards ... well then we hit it off real good, and starting IM'g back and forth, and before long, we were spending hours on the phone. She has become one of my bestest friends, and such a generous soul... she's sent me purses, chicken fabric and lots of lovelies ... and even gifts for my "Precious".

That all started 2 years ago! We were supposed to go to the Quilters Circle of Friends retreat in Portland, Oregon this year.. but due to financial constraints, I was unable to go. So Shauna has picked a week for vacation, and is coming HERE to visit and stay for a week! WATCH OUT BRANSON!

We're gonna have a sew fest, do the quilt shop tours, hang out, sew, yak, sew, relax, sew, shop ... we're gonna do the quilter's paradise vacation... WHATEVER WE WANT! We're gonna take over my living room and set up all the needed supplies for a big sew-in ... and we're also inviting a couple quilting cyber-friends that live in Arkansas ... we're just gonna have a FUN FUN FUN time !

I'm so excited! Can hardly wait for next Saturday! And THANKS to my wonderful hubby ... he's gonna hide in the "man cave" and eat leftovers for the week and let us have our fun! What a guy! THANKS HONEY !

Good Morning... thought I would blog a bit because I can and I should ! Today is Thursday... will get to have Precious this afternoon. Thought we would work on some projects :-)

My friends Miki and Paul had their sweet little baby boy, Kaleb on Memorial Day... he's a tad bit early, and weighed only 2 pounds and was 13-1/2 inches long ... he's a fighter, as well as an answer to many prayers. So when you're praying, please lift him and his parents up before The Lord... he's got a ways to go!

Here's something I made for a patriotic challenge on the HGTV quilting and needlework message board ... this is for my friend Paus ... this is a table topper that is made with insulbright to handle hot dishes and such on the table!

And this is another project I made just for fun for that same challenge ... Paus LOVES it when I put in some farm critters to her show! This is my goofy chicken... it's a kitchen towel !

Well I'm off to be productive today... have home chores and a little volunteer work to do at the elementary school, and also finish up some VBS paperwork for a meeting tomorrow... hope everyone has a blessed day, remember ... Jesus loves you and so do I !

A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to, and including, their life. That is an honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember that fact. THANK YOU for all who have served, or our currently serving to protect our freedoms! Bless you this Memorial Day!!!

I am SO thankful to live in a country that allows me freedoms ... I can speak like I want, I can worship like I want, I can even voice against the government if I choose to do so. And all these freedoms came at a very high price ... many men and women died fighting for these freedoms. I just want to say THANK YOU!

Our country was founded BECAUSE people chose to worship our Lord in their own way... they did not want to be told HOW to worship or WHO to worship. Our country was founded on Christian principles and values, and many MANY gave all they had to protect their (and our) rights to to uphold these values and freedoms. From the Revolutionary War to gain our independence from England, to now in the deserts of Afghanistan and Iraq, men and women are STILL fighting to protect those freedoms we were given over 200 years ago ... for that I SAY THANK YOU!!! We honor you this Memorial Day.

Well I think this is a time for renewal in my life ... I've renewed my blog background, supposed to be getting renewed time for myself {{where's those rolling eyes icons?}}, and the Lord has renewed my Spirit. I went to a Joyce Meyer conference last weekend... God uses her in mighty ways... and He used her to recharge me to serve Him in a more effective way. GOD IS GOOD! ALL THE TIME !

I'm off to spend a day hoppin around quilt shops today in the Ozarks with an HGTV message board quilty friend... FLORIDA FARM GAL! Looking forward to meeting another cyber quilting sister. Will be back to post more later!

BAGS, BAGS and BAGS

My friend Roxie's conference for firemen's wives was a huge success! Roxie and hubby Jim are Chaplains for the CalFire Chaplain's and there's a conference held every year for training and fellowshipping... and usually the wives that attend with the Chaplain's don't always have too much to do ... and Roxie wanted to make sure her conference in Palm Springs was a fun event! They scheduled shopping time, devotion time and fellowshipping for the ladies, and she brought in some sewing machines, and they learned to sew quilt blocks!

A bunch of friends from the HGTV message board got together to help Roxie's endeavor out. I put out a call to FQs for purses and totes, so that each of the ladies could make themselves one as a souvenir. O my gosh! There were so many FQs sent, along with thread, embellishments and funds to help with shipping all this stuff!

I washed all the fabrics (which was the BEST laundry I've ever done!) and pressed them all.... cutting the 1/2 yd cuts into FQs.... packed them all up and sent them on their way, after making a sample for Roxie and printing off the instructions. There was enough for over 100 bags!

The gals of the conference had the BEST time! And each one got to have a bag as a souvenir, and the women who ARE Chaplains, they were given bags that had been sewn, so no woman lost out!

WoW ! I forgot I changed the layout on my blog... and I really need to keep up on this more! I've been busy spinning my wheels (or so it seems). Life in the Ozarks has been quite beautiful, and I think this is the most colorful fall I've experienced since moving here. I think God likes to show off His master artistry in this part of the country!

I haven't been sewing as much as I wanted to when this year first began... oh the best laid plans of mice and midgets! I did receive a HUGE blessing this year... some friends of ours, Jim and Roxie, are doing a Chaplains training this week in La Quinta California, for the CalFire Chaplains. They are a great bunch of firemen and wives who are called to minister and counsel on calls the firemen make... sometimes it's helping with families deal with death thru car accidents, drownings, or other tragic ways people die. And sometimes they deal with the firemen themselves, who have to deal with horrific deaths of children or co-workers and loved ones. It's a TOUGH job! And I feel the firemen and police of our communities are OUR HEROES !

Anyway, Roxie wanted to have something for the wives of these Chaplains to have something to do for this week... so I put a call out to my quilter friends on the internet, and asked for matching and coordinating FQs for a simple purse for these ladies to make while at the training. Well... once again, they answered the call, and then some! We received enough for over 100 purses, and also embellishments of buttons, threads, all sorts of little goodies to include! Roxie also scheduled to have some sewing machines at the conference, and a quilting teacher to come and give them a beginner's lesson on making a quilt block. I have a couple pics I will post on that, and am anxiously waiting pics of the gals and their purses!

So I'm off to start my day... laundry and a big ole pot of beans are calling my name this morning! I hope y'all have a blessed day, and thanks for stopping by ! Hugs from the MOzarks!

I'm SO BLESSED to be a Grandma !

I'm a grandma to a wonderful 6 yr old DGD... who will be 7 the end of this month. I call her my Precious... and that she is! She loves to watch me sew, and has played with fabrics and charms since she was 3 years old. She started with making patterns out of her sandwich pieces I would cut... so then she'd ask to play with my squares, and she will sit on the floor with a baggie of charms and just have a wonderful time!

We spent many hours over the last year or so sewing together... I'd work the foot pedal, and she'd move the fabric thru the foot pedal, and we would have some together fun! I think she's a natural! Last Christmas I bought her a mini-Janome... her very own sewing machine! So I've been teaching her to sew and care for her machine. She has her "own stash", but knows G'ma's is up for grabs too... don't want to be stiffelin that creative mind!
She's completed a few projects ... she made a doll quilt, a sewing caddy for her tools, a fun monster doll, and a pin cushion (which was an error on another doll, but we turned it into a very useful positive)!

Hello ... my name is SavedSinnr and I'm a STASH-A-HOLIC ... I need some help. :p

Since moving into my new sewing room, I've become accutely aware of my stashing habits ... and I've been thinking, I need to take care of this, but this morning was the last straw. As I'm scouring around my sewing room TRYING to find some little ribbons I stashed in a box, I realized how unorganized I truly am right now... and as I pull out drawers, I find squares... bags of them. And I look in the noodle drawer ... bags of those. Then I went to straighten up some FQs I need to put away, and I pull out a BAG of squares AND noodles of pat*rio*tics! ok, so that's good for one of the BOMs I'm doing... then I look in a little cupboard I have, and I pull out 2 mini-tubs of SQUARES! By this time, I'm feeling like I'm in a fog, so I go look for this little box in the nice closet I have... as I'm looking thru things, what do I pull out? MORE SQUARES!

WHAT is this obsession with me cutting and stashing squares? At this point I realize I'm hopeless and I NEED HELP! Please help me... I need to be a part of the stashbusters group! I can't stand it any longer ... I give in!

I will be making as many stash projects as I can this year! No more buying unless it's to finish up... I HAVE GOT to get this thing under control, I just CAN'T let it take total control of my life! :D

Between trying to sew, keep up the house, take care of my precious DGD, cook once in a while, AND actually sleep... where do y'all find time to blog? ~~~ that's my question for the New Year... and my determination ~~~ I WILL find time to blog!

She wants SARAH PALIN hair !!!

My Darling G'baby came over today ... it's picture day at school. She says "you like my hair?" I told her it was beautiful ... she said "I had mommy fix it just like Sarah Palin hair".

Now what little precious knows who Sarah Palin is ??? SHE DOES! She told me that "Sarah and John McCain are working together so Sarah can be Vice President!"

She gets it! She gets it! First grade and she gets it! I wonder if Sarah started out like that ....

Please Pray a GOOD DONOR for Lyndsay

I had a phone call from VintageLisa yesterday, and she gave me an update on Lyndsay’s progress with Leukemia. This week, Lyndsay has been “unbelievably” sick. Due to her recent chemo treatments, she has no white blood cells, and got a fever… then got infections galore. They called in teams of doctors to find the source of her infections. Her temperature was 104.1, so they packed her in ice to bring it down.

The medications given for the fever make her nauseous. On Tuesday, the fever broke, and she started producing white blood cells on her own, which is exactly what the doctors were hoping for. Lisa said they were 1.2 on Tuesday, 2.4 on Wednesday, and 5.4 on Thursday, so they are doubling everyday. Praise God!

Lisa said PRAISE THE LORD ! that Lyndsay is feeling AND looking better, and even smiling a little! Altho, she is still keeping nothing down, not even her oral meds… they’ve been giving her anti-nausea meds, but they knock her out so bad that she can only sleep… poor baby. Since stopping those meds, she was more alert now, and as soon as she can keep food and water down, she can go home for a few days!

GOOD NEWS! A donor match has been found !!! They have found someone in the US with 9 out of 10 markers, which is a really chance of match. The transplant doctor has accepted the case… but there are some needs. Also, there’s a possible match in Japan, which could possibly give her 10 out of 10 markers for a match. It’s possible that the transplant could be as soon as the end of next month, but Lyndsay must be in full remission.

Today, Friday, is her bone marrow biopsy, but it will take a few weeks for the results to come back. They are hoping and praying this test will come back negative for leukemic cells.

Lisa’s not been well… she’s a mom who’s struggling watching her precious daughter fighting this disease… but she’s doing much better since Lyndsay is doing better.

Lyndsay loves the cards and gifts, and is very grateful for everything sent. Here are some ways we can pray for her:

- Her bone marrow biopsy will come back completely leukemia free
- She needs to be in full remission in order to be eligible for the bone marrow transplant.
- The bone marrow donor will have a healthy immune system, and be accepting to do this.
- Continued increase in her white blood cell count
- They need to find an apartment close to the hospital, once the transplant is done, in case of infection… it has to be within 15 minutes, and it’s in LaJolla. It also has to be fairly new, to help keep the possibility of germs down.

Their family’s faith is strong… Lisa said that they know God will provide and that He is faithful! And that she does not know what they would be doing with the Lord… so please continue to lift their family up in prayer.

On another note.... the VERY GENEROUS gals of the HGTV Quilting message board have really come through! We were led to ask for blocks for a quilt... boy, did they ever provide! The quilt is being made for Lyndsay, to show her love and comfort during this very difficult time... there are A LOT of prayers being put into this quilt. I'm so blessed to see the outpouring for Lyndsay, and also in how many people have been writing me telling me of how they are lifting her up. God is truly good... and He's GOOD ALL THE TIME! And we are praying His healing touch for Lyndsay.

Lyndsay's Progress this week

Here is a message I received from Lisa... Lyndsay's mom. Please remember to keep this family in your prayers.......

We are back in the hospital today after 3 days at home. It was supposed to be for 5 days but her bone marrow biopsy came back positive with Leukemic cells. So she gets nupogen (sp?) tonight to stimulate her white blood cells, then start her 3rd round of chemo tomorrow, a different type to hopefully kill them all this time, put her in remission, then a bone marrow transplant. They are still working on finding a donor, her HLA typing is not common, so it makes finding a donor more challenging. Prayers are appreciated. Thank You!!!!!!! Lisa

QUILT of LOVE ~ Lyndsay's Progress

Lyndsay is doing well, and her white count is up…all on their own. She’s been in the hospital 7 weeks now, and her white count is just under 700… the Dr’s want it @ 1000… so if she can get it up to that level, she maybe able to go home for a few days. She will have a bone marrow biopsy tomorrow, and should have the results back by Monday. They are asking for prayer that no leukemic cells will be found in the test. If that happens, she will be in remission, and will get to go home for a few days, then come back for consolidation chemo 3 days a week, and will be in the hospital for 1 week. If everything goes ok there, she’ll be home for 3 weeks… then she’ll have to do this all again for 3 months. That is the result they are praying for! If that does happen, the hospital will hold any mail received, and they will be back for treatment and pick up her mail… she’ll let me know when to change the mailing address to her home.

She’s been receiving lots of cards, postcards, and CQ hearts… she says they are absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Mom’s loving all the vintage CQ work being sent, and is amazed and grateful for all the love and support and prayers being shown. Lyndsay also received an embroidery kit, which she is very excited about being able to do something creative! Lyndsay is so grateful for all the mail she is receiving… it brightens her day, and asked me to TELL EVERYONE THANK YOU !!!! She is not as sick as first time around, and is very encouraged by the cards and love being sent! Her days are much easier and happier because of all y’all !!!

I asked their needs… they said they need pr@yer... The are seeing the power of pr@yer, and are so grateful… keep it up! Thank you for being so giving in your time, talents and gifts to Lyndsay... and for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of this..... I am blessed, blessed, blessed.
